Valley Bakery

At the foot of the majestic Drakensberg mountains in South Africa, in the Champagne Valley,  lies a beautifully family-ownebakery.

The first time I found out about Valley Bakery is when I bought some of their flour in a supermarket. This must have been about 4 years ago. I loved the name and the fact that it’s a local mill producing it, so I started researching the business. Because I travel to Kwa-Zulu Natal to visit my sons who are in boarding school here, I made the effort to find the bakery for myself and have been back a few times!

Valley Bakery started off with the owners grinding their own wheat using the stone ground technique. They supplied the hotels and restaurants in the area and because their flour is good (100% natural with no GMO and unbleached) the first bread machine was soon too small!

Today you can buy Champagne Valley Stone Mill flour in many supermarkets in the country and top bakeries and chefs only use their flour.

The bakery is family-friendly with a lovely play area for young children. The deli sells homemade breads, biscuits, pies and a selection of lovely pastries. Breakfasts and lunches are a special treat!

What a happy place to visit!
